A large part of our artistic energy is focussed on our participation programme. We work with students, communities and other artists to share skills and develop new projects. This participation programme had of three strands:

Community Participation 

Brokentalkers are leaders in the areas of participatory arts practice In Ireland. We regularly work with a diverse range of communities of place and interest. We offer a range of creative engagements from one off workshops to ambitious large scale productions. 

We passionately  believe in the creative potential of every individual. We are motivated by a belief in the power of the arts to enrich lives. Through our participatory  work we advocate that authorship and ownership of a creative process or product leads to a better engagement with and appreciation for art than passive spectatorship. Examples of communities and contexts we have worked with include: Women’s Community Groups, Youth Theatre, the Irish prison system, the gay community, new communities and creative aging. 

Brokentalkers are current artists in residence at Trinity College Dublin. Our residency will involve working with the local community living and working around the grand canal district to develop a number of new artistic projects and initiatives. We welcome inquiries from community groups and organisations who are interested in working with Brokentalkers to develop new participatory projects.

Education & Training 

Brokentalkers regularly deliver lectures, workshops and creative experiences for third level students and professional artists.

We offer lectures and practical masterclasses in which we introduce participants to our approach to performance making. We can also work with groups over an extended period of time in order to create original devised performance pieces. 

Both Gary and Feidlim are regular lectures in Dublin’s leading third level institutions, Gary teaches Creative Engagement at the Lir Academy. Feidlim teaches Staging Performance a Practical Approach, at UCD school Drama and English. We have adapted our teaching and training to be deliverable remotely over Zoom.
